The odds of any of us, as individual persons, actually having come into being seem to be almost impossibly small. Both your parents had to survive long enough to procreate, each of their parents had to do the same, and so on back through countless generations. If any one link in this genetic chain had fallen victim to war, disease, accident or disaster before passing on their genes to the next generation, you wouldn’t exist. To me, this is pretty mind blowing and, on occasion, pretty overwhelming, too – what a debt to owe!
