about

Jevons Paradox is an idea in economics, first raised in 1865, that increasing the efficiency of technology leads to that technology becoming cheaper and more accessible, ultimately increasing its consumption of resources and not, as intuition would suggest, decreasing consumption. This raises the bigger questions of just how sensible is it for us to rely on technology as a solution to the great problems of our society, and what exactly is “progress”? Jevons Paradox inherently suggests that we need solutions that are as socially based as they are technologically.

lyrics

Proliferation is the bastard spawn of progress:
As invention wars with entropy it strikes a fatal blow.

Obsolescence is its brother in this war dance.
Together they kill technology
And usher in decay…

Stuck in Jevon’s Paradox
Swimming in the quicksand,
Stuck in Jevon’s Paradox
Where the future is the past.

The cadence of consumption creates cacophony!
And in this mass migration it masks our misery.

Deaf to all we hear, blind to reality
Finity is the cage we cannot break
The law
We can’t escape.

Efficiency is the lusting praying mantis
In the moment of success it tastes oblivion.

Progress is the lie of our presumption
And in its arrogance
It blinds us to
Eventuality.

Stuck in Jevon’s Paradox
Drowning in the quicksand,
Stuck in Jevon’s Paradox
Accelerating fast!
Stuck in Jevon’s Paradox
Drowning in the quicksand,
Stuck in Jevon’s Paradox
Where the future is the past.
